You may or may not know who is Lionel Andrés Messi, also known as Leo Messi. If you don’t know who he is, you will probably hear a bit about him in the next few days. Messi is an Argentine soccer player. Yes, I said soccer. I can rephrase. He is Argentine professional footballer who plays as a forward for Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain and captains the Argentina national team.
Right now, he helped power his team to the World Cup Finals. If you watch the game, you know he’s hungry. He’s on the verge of accomplishing a lifelong dream- that of winning the World Cup. Many feel this is it for him, as he is 35 years old.
I keep wondering what happens next for him. If he wins the World Cup, he has achieved the ultimate success. Where do you go from there? He might be considered to be on the older side of sports. However, Tom Brady has shown that the body can keep on moving past 40 years old. If Messi (and Argentina) doesn’t win, does he just go quietly into the night?
I’ll tell you this. He has a single focus right now. However, life goals morph, grow, and continue to add on. There is not just one life goal. Each decade of your life brings new perspectives and orbits into your world. You just have to be open adjusting and being vulnerable as you possibly take on new adventures. I don’t believe that people should be wedded any longer to one career. Go ahead and mix it up. Some you will excel at, and others you’ll find may not be all that worth it. You just got to try.
