Somebody’s watching me: Street Art in Australia

Somebody’s watching me: Street Art in Australia

Happy day! It is day 292 of the current year. Back in 1985, the Norwegian band A-Ha went to number 1 on the US Singles chart with the song “Take on Me.” The song is not a bad one. What propelled them was their video that was cool at the time and now seems rather silly and low-tech. A decade before that David Bowie released his seventh album called Pin ups. I have to admit that I have never heard of it. Apparently. is was a collection of cover versions of some of Bowie’s favorite songs, including tracks by Pink Floyd, The Pretty Things, The Who, The Yardbirds and The Kinks. Sounds pretty cool to me. As he is the master of cool, mystery and cool.

Despite the deep  musical history of this day, I woke up singing Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me.”  The days are darker earlier and the morning are not so bright. The morning dawn is heavy and bleak. Back in 1987, the stock market crashed as the Dow Jones industrial average plunged 508 points, or 22.6% – its biggest one-day percentage drop in history. Historically, there is what we have referred to as an October surprise.  We are at the mid-way point of October, therefore I am wondering what surprise is coming our way?  Definitely Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me”  is haunting me this morning.

The song got me thinking of some of the cool street art I have come across in my travels that spooked me a bit. The eyes in the street art followed me and made me a bit paranoid (in a good way).

  1. Great photos, Mimi and thanks for sharing our Australian Street Art. I’ve been tempted to write about some of our local street art. I posted about our climbing tree in a park in Byron Bay today. There’s also a community art project in the park, which you’d find interesting. Here’s the link: https://beyondtheflow.wordpress.com/2015/10/20/our-magic-climbing-tree-in-byron-bay/
Hope you’re having a great week! xx Rowena
