childhood

I declared at a very young age that I was going to be a psychologist

When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was a young girl, I didn’t play with barbies. I wasn’t super girlie that way. I played board and strategy games every day. I participated in storytelling contests. I acted I’m homegrown movies every weekend.

In the midst of all that different type of childhood play, my mother says I always knew I was going to be a psychologist. My mom noted I had this affinity for understanding motives, behaviors, and thoughts. I don’t recall noting this at the age of five. Yet, my mom swore up and down, and I declared at a very young age that I was going to be a psychologist.

I was always observing, listening, and taking notes. Till this day, I still do this. I sit back and observe and surmise. My brain has always worked that way. Hopefully, will always continue to do so. I’ve always been able to pick up on small cues and move things in a direction that I believe to be correct. Human motivation has always been top of mind. It drives me and I drive it.
