I’m in the market for a new habit

Describe one habit that brings you joy.

It’s an interesting concept to consider a joyful habit. Often, when we hear the word “habit” we may think of some “bad” things such as biting one’s nails, fidgeting, or cutting people off. But there are good habits such as a nightly bubble bath. Although, I think of those more in terms of rituals. Is there such a nuance?

I also get up each morning and make my coffee. But that’s a need. I’m not too sure as to whether drinking coffee in the morning brings me joy. Maybe it brings me serenity or steadiness.

One habit that I used to have that I loved was dancing. I would play my music for 20 to 30 minutes and just dance. I don’t need a nightclub. But I haven’t really danced lately. Sort of reminds me of Wham’s/George Michael’s Careless Whisper.

What I do know is that habits can be powerful and helpful. I’m in the market for a new habit.

  1. My new habit will start when I finish getting the last book of my mainstream trilogy to the fully organized state I need it to be in before I start writing.

It’s an important state because I’m an extreme plotter, and hundreds of decisions (maybe more) have to be made ahead of time so I can work one finished scene at a time – and not go back.

The organizing has been brutal – it’s been seven years since the previous time – but I think I’m getting there. After that, I have my writing process, and just reapply that until all the scenes are finished – and publish. Easy peasy. After the organizing.
