Why doesn’t McDonald’s serve lunch all day?
Twitter was all a flutter a few weeks past when McDonald’s went ahead and made breakfast available all day. I too think that is great as I do enjoy a bowl of cereal at midnight although I am not a big breakfast fan. I am also not a big McDonald’s fan. I must admit, however, that I do enjoy for a few minutes, their Sausage McGriddles for it divinely mixes sweetness with saltiness. Although, by the 5th bite I am usually over it. Anyway, I usually eat at McDonald’s maybe once every two years but with my cross-country road trip this summer I stopped there with some frequency. I specifically stopped everyday while on the road so that I could get a latte. I am addicted to my lattes. Admittedly, their coffee is not bad and is way cheaper than Starbucks.
Now here is my question. Why not serve lunch all day? If I can have cereal at midnight, why not lunch all day? Most people have had cereal late at night at least once in their lives, right? Thus, why not have burgers and fries available at 7am? See here is the thing. I am not a stickler for set foods at set times. I believe that you should let your body’s hankerings decide what it needs and wants. What truly is the difference between hash browns and french fries? I will tell you. French fries can get more readily soaked in ketchup and I love ketchup. I want to be able to dip fries in ketchup at 7am. Yes, I do.
A few years back, there was a national survey that found that 2% of Americans eat burgers for breakfast and the reporters were shocked asking who eats burgers fro breakfast. Let me tell you, I bet more than 2% of Americans do that. It is just a bit stigmatized and it should not be anything to be embarrassed about at all.
I am hoping a revolution will come. Cereal at midnight and french fries at dawn. And why not?
