Everyday we lose something. I am not talking about losing a loved one. Although, watching a friend slowly die has been on my mind everyday this past week. That has been a travesty and I will write about that more these days to come. And that is important and that is a true gut-wrenching loss. I am not here today to talk about that. Rather, I am here to talk about the silly things that we lose on a daily basis. Tell me that today you didn’t lose either your keys, glasses, phone or mind. I jest on the latter. However, yes, we tend to lose our cool much more often these days. As a society, we are angrier and thus angry outbursts are becoming more and more the norm. But that is not what I am here to talk about.
Maybe because we are running around from one place to another at frantic paces, we are continuously misplacing items. That wouldn’t be so worrisome if it weren’t for the fact that over the course of our lifetime, we will spend a total of 3,680 hours or 153 days searching for misplaced items. Ouch! Does that not seem like a complete waste of time? It would be nice if we could just use some advanced technological device such as those in Star Wars or Blade Runner 2049 to find our lost items. However, we are not quite there yet. Although, on a slight digression, I have to note that Blade Runner 2049 was about 60 minutes too long and I love Ryan Gosling. The film director (Villeneuve) noted that it is one of the most expensive art house movies ever and it wasn’t meant to be an arthouse movie. But back to losing items and, thus, time.
I implore Amazon to boost Alexa’s capabilities so that we don’t have to waste 3,680 hours of our lives looking for keys that are in our coat pockets or glasses that are on our heads. Till then, however, maybe we have to work on being more mindful and aware of what we are doing. If we are more present in our day to day would we lose so many small things in our lives? Which actually ends up taking up over 150 days of our lives. When you see this bigger picture you truly realize how these little petty things are such a colossal waste of our lives. There is so much more we can do with 153 days. I would love to travel the world. I would love to sit and write three or four books. I can learn a new skill or a new language in that time. Supposedly, we lose up to nine items every day. If one extrapolates that can total around 198,743 lost items in our lifetime. Inconceivable!
I don’t know about you but I feel slightly more motivated to not lose so many things anymore. If supposedly we lose (misplace) nine items a day, I think I can start aiming for that to be five instead. Then the question becomes what do to with all that new found free time. The world is waiting!

Don’t worry. It just gets worse as you get older. Eventually you forget you ever had it and the problem is solved.
