What are your favorite 5 apps on your phone?
Is there such a thing as a favorite app?
I suppose there is a difference between favorite and frequently used. Gmail and X are probably my most frequently used apps. Which doesn’t necessarily mean I love them. It may simply mean I have developed a mild dependency.
Facebook gets a regular visit too, although the ads are becoming increasingly unsettling. Sometimes I’ll think about something, literally just think about it, and suddenly Facebook is showing me an ad for it.
I’m beginning to wonder if they’re reading my mind or if I’m just extremely predictable.
I also check my market positions. Frequently. This is not a favorite. No one has ever said, “I can’t wait to see how my portfolio is doing today!” It’s more like checking the scale after eating pasta.
But then there’s Marriott.
I love opening the Marriott app and looking at places I’m not going to.
Paris. Rome. Some ridiculous resort in the Maldives.
I can spend a perfectly good evening planning a vacation I have no intention of taking. It’s basically travel porn, but with points.
And then there’s IMDb, which may actually be my favorite.
I love chasing connections. Wait. Wasn’t that actor in that other movie with that actress who was in that show with…?
Down the rabbit hole I go.
So perhaps my five favorite apps aren’t really the five I use most.
They’re the ones that reveal something about me.
Gmail says responsibilities.
X says curiosity and questionable judgment.
Facebook says algorithmic surveillance.
Marriott says dreams.
And IMDb says I need to know who that guy was in that thing.
Honestly, that may be the most accurate personality test I’ve ever taken.
