I really love baths. For the past decade, or so, I’ve tried taking a bath every night. It’s my time. My gift to myself. There were times, in the past, when I took baths and answered work calls. Dumb move. Really, dumb move. Anyone will tell you that no job is worth that moment of zen. Yet, sometimes, we get so caught up day in and day out in doing a good job. Giving it our own. Yet, we’re easily replaceable. Sadly.

But I have digressed. A little.

This week has been difficult. Actually, the past six weeks have been unbearable. Yet, I have shown up day after day. People ask me how I do it. I have no real answer other than that I have to. But because everything has been topsy turvy, there have been times during which I have had to forsake my baths. Ouch. Talk about self-sacrifice.

Last night, or rather technically, this morning I woke up and realized I should treat myself to a bath. Indeed, I got up at 3am and filled my tub with scalding hot water and soaked happily.

I had woken up from a nightmare and waded into a dream. It was only a 20-minute bath, but it did immense good to my well-being.

Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today. Even a small thing, such as a bath, should not be a dream deferred.
