Ok. Here we are. One full week into the new year. My word for the year is “joy” and I’m determined to GSD (get stuff done). Yet, even though we are one week in, this has already felt like a rough start to the year. Betty White didn’t reach 100 years of age. A horrible fire in the Bronx. Bob Saget dead at 65. I wasn’t a huge fan, but 65 seems too young. It should be. We hit 90,000 new covid cases the other day. Testing lines are everywhere. Covid testing is testing us. There’s a lot going on. And, that is an underestimate.
Am I naive in hoping for a true reset button for the year or for a reprieve? I understand I have to keep my eye on the prize. I just need to push forward and get stuff done. However, it may be a bit hard to get stuff done if these challenges keep coming up.
Yet, I and us, must persevere.
Everything negative – pressure, challenges – is all an opportunity for me to rise.

A lot of memes have popped up about the Golden Girls being reunited – that’s somehow comforting, even though we KNOW it was just a job, and the fourth GG was the same age as the rest of them. We loved our Sophia.
Life is always this way. Messy. Unpredictable. Hoped for.
I keep telling myself to get a move on – novels never write themselves when the author is gone.
Well, some do, but I think it’s a mistake when someone else completes or extends another person’s legacy – without being a total purist about it. I won’t read the Dune books cowritten or written by Herbert’s son, nor the widely-panned Scarlett! ‘sequel’ to GWTW. After being disappointed a long time ago by The Seven Percent Solution, I eschew that whole side of life: if it wasn’t written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle about HIS creation, I’m not reading it. I am in the minority about this, but I have plenty to read.
JOY! Live what you have – hope this year is better in many ways than each previous one.

Just a few hours into 2022 and water started leaking from the side of my house. And that’s after the 30k in unexpected house repairs of last year. I threw up my hands and said, “well, that didn’t last long.” I guess we should just expect bad things to happen so we don’t feel so let down
