A summer night  A storm, and A bathtub

I’m writing this from my bathtub.

Not metaphorically. Not “I need a moment to myself” bathtub. An actual, porcelain, slightly-too-cold, mid-thunderstorm, power-is-out, phone-at-17% kind of bathtub.

The lights snapped off about twenty minutes ago. One dramatic flicker, then darkness like a stage cue. Outside, the sky is doing that summer thing where it can’t decide if it wants to seduce you or ruin your life. The thunder rolls in long, low notes, like it has something to say but isn’t quite ready to say it clearly. And the rain is steady, insistent and feels less like weather and more like a mood.

And here I am. In a bathtub. Writing.

There is something almost offensively perfect about it.

If this were a movie, I’d be a different woman. Softer. More mysterious. Probably holding a glass of red wine I don’t actually want, contemplating a love that got away or a truth I’ve been avoiding. But in reality, I’m thinking about my inbox (always my inbox), whether the freezer is defrosting, and if I remembered to charge my backup charger, which, obviously, I did not.

Still, there’s a pull to this moment.

The enforced stillness. The darkness that isn’t empty but full of sound, of memory, of the kind of quiet that doesn’t ask permission before it wraps around you. It feels romantic until it doesn’t. It feels eerie until it doesn’t. It feels like something is about to be revealed, except maybe the only thing being revealed is that we are very rarely this present.

No notifications. No hum of appliances. No soft glow pretending to be control.

Just thunder. Water. Breath.

It’s funny how we spend so much time trying to curate the perfect atmosphere, and then life just switches off the lights and hands it to us unedited.

A summer night. A storm. A bathtub.

No audience. No filter. No real point.

Just a moment that insists on being felt.

And maybe that’s the whole thing.
