Random Texts at 3 AM: Do I Have Too Much or Too Little Going On?

There’s a certain art form to receiving random texts that say everything and nothing all at once. You know, those delightful little nuggets like “nothing’s going on” or “everything’s a mess” with absolutely zero context. No explanation. Just… life served up on a platter with a side of mystery.

Here’s the kicker: I’ll often see these at 3 AM—because who doesn’t love a good random life update in the middle of the night? I’ll sit there, bleary-eyed, thinking, “Do I respond now? Is this an emergency? Should I pretend to care at this hour, or should I wait until daylight, like a normal person?” But 3 AM me is neither rational nor normal. I want to fill in the blanks right then and there.

If you text me “nothing’s going on” at 3 AM, my mind automatically goes to the extremes. Are you hiding in a blanket fort, emotionally eating Oreos while binge-watching The Golden Girls? Or, are you sitting in a quiet room pondering the meaning of existence? Either way, I need details.

And then there’s the “everything’s a mess” text. Ok, great—are we talking messy as in your room looks like a tornado hit, or is it the more existential crisis variety? I don’t know, but at 3 AM, I’m mentally solving your problems for you.

Here’s the kicker: if I’m reading these texts at 3 AM and wanting to solve your vague life riddles, what does that say about me? Do I also have too much or too little going on? Am I secretly hoping for chaos to make my night more exciting, or is it the weird comfort of knowing we’re all just flailing around together?

Either way, keep texting. I’ll keep guessing.
