In the twilight realm, where awake meets asleep,
I dance on the edge, a balance so steep.
Eyes heavy with the weight of a cosmic gaze,
Yet restless, a mind lost in a sleepless maze.
Dreams, elusive phantoms, paint the night,
Vivid hues, a canvas of pure delight.
Lucid whispers of a subconscious ballet,
Yet consciousness lingers, a reluctant stay.
Sleep, a search for refuge, a respite sought,
Yet a paradox, for time is dearly bought.
A wrestling match between the sandman’s sway,
And the stubborn mind that resists the sway.
To succumb or resist, a nightly debate,
As the clock ticks on, sealing my fate.
A dance with slumber, fitful and sly,
Wanted, yet tiring, a paradox am I.
Sleep, the elusive mistress of the night,
A realm where time takes a fleeting flight.
In its embrace, a surrender, a compromise,
A journey into the realm where reality lies.

So beautifully said. I went through this dance for decades but now usually sleep pretty good thanks to pharmaceuticals…except tonight, it’s nearly 3 am already. Yikes.
