Grand egos are not for me

Name the professional athletes you respect the most and why.

I love watching sports. However, I don’t watch them often. I watch the big games. The Superbowl. The World Cup. The U.S. Open. The World Series. And, all the other big ones. One could say I’m a fairweather fan, but I’m just busy. Sports are not appointment- or “must see tv”- for me. Except for the big ones.

I’m also one of those who doesn’t necessarily see sports players as heroes. Some may truly have great background stories from which they rise from absolute poverty to being ranked number one player in their respective sport. That’s heartwarming to see and root for.

Because I don’t follow sports on a daily basis, I’m not too aware of the so-called private lives of the big players. However, I will note that in general, I respect those who give back to the community in a meaningful way. I respect those who stop to talk to the young fans. I respect those who make sure their closest family members are comfortable. I respect those who respect their sport and are gracious, demonstrating gratitude. Grand egos are not for me. Not only in sports but in any business endeavor or sector. Check narcissism at the door, is what I say.
