Falling asleep on the couch. Watching a throwaway show. It’s just meant to be moving wallpaper that occasionally grabs your interest. You rewatch the same episode repeatedly as you are in and out of sleep. You wake up startled. Heart pumping. Ragged breaths. You’re still in a fuzzy state. It had been a vivid dream. It had been a nightmare because if had roots in reality. You feel betrayed in your dream. The nightmare lulls you back in. It tugs at you. It jabs at you. It won’t let you go. It wants to show you a truth. You feel scared because the horror is real. The feelings are real. But you want to sink them. Your heart races. You almost want back in. You want to finish it your way. But you can’t let it eat at you. Chomp. Chomp. Chomp. You’re going to have to deal with it at some point.
