The Bizarre News You Missed While Eating Turkey

While most people were gobbling down stuffing and battling the crowds for Black Friday deals, some truly oddball news stories flew right under the radar. Here are three of some of the wackiest headlines that you may have missed during the holiday chaos:

1. Man Sues Utah for Denying His Bigfoot Hunting License
That’s right, folks. A Utah man filed a lawsuit against the state for refusing to issue him a hunting permit for Bigfoot. He argued that if people are allowed to hunt for animals that don’t exist, like unicorns, why not Bigfoot? This story is one for the “believe it or not” files, and while Bigfoot is still elusive, the case had its day in the courtroom. Who knew the state of Utah was standing between this man and his cryptid dreams?

2. The Great Bologna Theft Caper
In another wacky tale, a truck carrying 44,000 pounds of bologna was hijacked in Texas. Yes, you read that correctly—bologna. The thieves likely thought they were nabbing valuable goods but instead ended up with a lot of processed meat. While the mystery remains unsolved, it’s safe to say someone out there is sitting on a veritable mountain of sandwiches. How quickly they rat through it is anyone’s guess. Can they do a cookout? Texas law enforcement is still trying to find the masterminds behind this meat heist.

3. The Pigeon Who Got a Job at a Canadian Fire Station
It’s not every day that a pigeon becomes an honorary member of a firehouse, but this week, a pigeon in Alberta, Canada, waddled into a fire station, made itself at home, and was promptly adopted by the crew. Nicknamed Walter, the bird now has a tiny uniform and hangs out with the firefighters during their shifts. Walter’s new job seems to be boosting morale and pecking at stray crumbs—truly, a bird with purpose. This is a bit of a feel good story which is good way to end this post.

While we all were catching up with loved ones and plotting our leftovers strategy, the world kept spinning in all its weird and wacky glory. Stay tuned; who knows what absurdities next week will bring!
