Lately, the term “doom spending” has been making the rounds, and I have to admit, I’ve been feeling a little called out. People are out there splurging on random things, all while worrying about the state of the world. Me? I haven’t been doing the doom scroll on Amazon or impulsively buying things I don’t need. No, my vice is different. It’s like doom spending’s far-flung cousin: “doom travel planning”.
In the past few weeks, I’ve gone on virtual globe-trotting escapades like never before. Silk Road? Yes, please! Brazil, Turkey, Puerto Rico? All bookmarked. I’m on the hunt for the next adventure, even as I know I should be “cutting back.” The problem is that once wanderlust strikes, there’s no turning back. And the past two years? Well, let’s just say my world pressed pause, but my desire to explore the world remained. My urge to travel just simmered under the surface, and now it’s boiling over.
So, is this my version of doom spending? Or is it just a realization that life is short, the world is vast, and there are way too many places left for me to explore? Probably both, honestly. Either way, I’m itching to hit “book flight” more than ever.
Maybe, just maybe, it’s not doom after all—it’s adventure waiting. And let’s face it, between dodging dogs at home and chaos at work, a little escape doesn’t sound so bad.

I’m just trying to get back to writing the third volume in my mainstream trilogy, Pride’s Children: LIMBO, to go with PURGATORY and NETHERWORLD, now that the worst has happened.
I refuse to spend one more speck of energy on the disaster – because there’s nothing I can DO. What little I could I did while it might have an effect on someone whose mind wasn’t entirely closed, but afterward I’m just numb, and trying to survive.
