Serenity: What a nice word

What positive emotion do you feel most often?

Serenity. That is a nice word. Calm. Peace. Zen. A beautiful kid’s name, as well. It’s a state of being that I fear too little of us experience. It seems that nowadays, we’re in a constant state of cacophony. We should aim for the buzz of serenity in our ears and soul. We should aim for serenity to take root and ground us. A mantra to get by these chaotic days of thunder.

  1. Hope – from an odd place.

For over thirty years, the disease that ended my career as a research physicist, ME/CFS, has been roundly ignored, even maligned as fake, by the medical research establishment. Funds were not available or got misdirected, and research into a complex multisystem disaster didn’t happen.

Now, because SO many people have long covid – essentially the same thing – money is flowing, the “it’s all in your head” have to be on their way out, and someone will get a Nobel Prize for medicine and/or chemistry for figuring out what ruined my life.

MONEY drives research, and the money goes to those who make the best case, and I could have gone hiking with my children in the Grand Canyon instead of watching from the handicapped spot in the parking lot…

I may still have a bit of life in me.

I finally have hope – from an odd place.
