There really shouldn’t be so many either/or situations in life. There should be negotiated and nuanced situations. I believe we all want a sense of security. We want to feel warm and protected. We want to feel sure-footed. We want to know that others have our back. We want to assume that our savings account will hold.

With that said, having a set of adventures is something to strive for as well. Maybe even everyday. Why not? Can be small adventures such as going to a new restaurant of a cuisine you’ve never tried before to learning to skateboard to hiking in Bogota. Or even going on a tour with former gang members (who may still be gang members). I love doing it all.

When I go on my trips abroad, I bring my own version of a security blanket. I bring a small toy my son gave me many years ago or the metal cross my uncle made decades ago before he died.

There is no either/or. Go have fun but always be prepared.
