I love working out. I often begrudgingly wake up early to go work out. I either go for a 60-minute walk or 45 minutes on the elliptical. Once I’m working out, I get pumped and jazzed. Sometimes working out longer than originally intented.
Why do I get so jazzed? Music! I love listening to my music privately while dreaming a myriad of possibilities. Sometimes, I reenact a movie scene. Sometimes, I choreograph dance moves in my mind. I love the fantasy of it all.
Today, I did something different. I went for a walk without listening to any music. Instead, I listened to the world. Caught snippets of conversations. Heard gleeful children. Also, I heard parts of angry hurtful discussions. Curses, laughter, and barks.
There is a lot to take in from the world around us.

I can’t imagine going for a walk plugged into music. I’d miss so much of the world. Even when it is discordant or ugly, the world is always interesting.
