Trust Your Gut (But Maybe Not After Ice Cream and Curry)

Do you trust your instinct?

I’ve always been one to trust my gut. It’s gotten me through life pretty well so far. I mean, aside from those occasional moments when I’ve eaten a bit too much ice cream or indulged in a curry binge—my gut’s only good for decision-making, not digesting spicy and milky treats concurrently. But when it comes to instincts? I like to think I’ve got a well-honed compass guiding me through all the twists and turns.

Lately, though, I’ve noticed a few missteps—times when things didn’t quite go as planned. And, when I retrace my steps, the one common factor is that I ignored that nagging voice deep inside me. That little voice, the one that’s been pretty on point all these years, got overshadowed by other whispers. You know, the voices of those who think they know better, the well-meaning advice-givers, the noise that sometimes convinces you to doubt your own judgment.

But here’s the thing: I’m rarely swayed. I’ve always prided myself on being fair, weighing the options, and then making the call. I’ve been told that more times than I can count. And that’s not something I’m about to give up. Trusting my instincts has been my anchor through all the chaos life throws our way.

Yet, life has a way of testing even the most steadfast. The world, with its endless stream of opinions, can make it hard to stick to your guns. But in the end, your gut—your true compass—knows. So here’s to staying on point, filtering the noise, and remembering that when it comes down to it, you already know the right direction to take. Just maybe go easy on the ice cream next time. Or not—because sometimes that gut instinct says, “Go for it.”
