Defining Principles: Authenticity, Fairness, and the Quirky Path in Between

What principles define how you live?

Ah, principles, those little guiding stars that steer us through the labyrinth of life. They’re like our own personal North Star, always there to help us navigate the great cosmic swirl of existence. So, what are my principles, you ask? Well, if you’ve ever dabbled in the world of my psychologistmimi blog, you might have noticed that two values have been my trusty sidekicks on this mad adventure – authenticity and fairness. One of my most popular posts was about being a phony. It is ok if you’re authentic. What a head trip that is.

In a world that sometimes feels like a never-ending circus, authenticity is my tightrope walk, my balancing act between sincerity and sarcasm. That’s why I’m a sunny curmudgeon. It’s the art of being real in a world that often revels in the unreal. And believe me, in a digital age filled with carefully curated personas, being authentic can sometimes feel like being a unicorn in a field of horses.

But why is authenticity such a central pillar in the grand structure of my principles? Because it’s the foundation of connection, the glue that binds us in a world where barriers often feel insurmountable. It’s about being unapologetically yourself, even when the world may expect you to be anything but. It’s about embracing your quirks, your sarcasm, your humor, and wearing them proudly as your coat of arms. And, boy am I quirky.

And speaking of unpredictability, that’s where fairness comes into the picture, throwing in a dash of chaos like the Joker at a tea party. You see, fairness, as I’ve come to learn, can be a tricky little riddle. It’s not about towing the party line or pledging allegiance to a single creed. It’s about considering the multitude of sides, the plethora of perspectives, and the cacophony of voices that make up the world’s choir.

Fairness is like a merry-go-round where each horse is a different shade, and the music keeps changing as you go around. It’s about being a chameleon, adapting to the kaleidoscope of viewpoints and being willing to flip the script when the plot calls for it. Yes, it can be maddening, but isn’t that what makes life a rollercoaster of surprises?

Now, here’s where the plot thickens. Fairness is often seen as predictably unpredictable. Confused? Let me break it down with a pop culture reference. Think of your favorite TV show, and the character who always keeps you guessing, who’s so unpredictable that you can’t help but love them. Fairness is that character, throwing curveballs and plot twists into the storyline.

People may be vexed by how fair I’ve been – they can’t predict where I’ll land on an issue because I’m not dogmatic. I don’t have a script; I have guiding principles that lead me through the labyrinth, but the path itself is filled with twists and turns. I’m like a character in a show who doesn’t fit neatly into the hero or villain role. I’m the antihero who throws the narrative into disarray.

So, here’s the punchline. Life is a circus, a grand spectacle of authenticity and fairness, with authenticity as the tightrope we walk and fairness as the jester who keeps the audience guessing. It’s about living authentically in a world that often seems scripted and being fair in a world that sometimes revels in chaos.

  1. I loved reading your post on authenticity and fairness. It’s so refreshing to read about someone who values these qualities so deeply in a world that often feels superficial and unfair. Fairness is also essential for a fulfilling life. When we treat others fairly, we create a world where everyone feels respected and valued. We also create a world where people are more likely to trust each other and cooperate.

  3. My top blog is about a vintage infantry bag that was ever present in the film ‘The Ninth Gate’. I concede. You definitely have the better ‘most popular blog’ outcome. But, in my defence, that bag is a beautiful iconic inclusion. Thank you for these insights. Much appreciated. 🙏🏽
