I’m a daydreamer so that I can take on the world

What strategies do you use to increase comfort in your daily life?

I work hard. I used to play hard. Yet, I still find my daily comforts. I can re-watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Dirty Dancing repeatedly. I like my decent bottle of Reisling. I love carrying my small eight-year old dog around as if he were a puppy. My baths are still a nightly ritual. Small comforts for long days.

I do have another comfort. It’s more a tactic to get through the day or to even get it started. I daydream. Sometimes, children are chastised for daydreaming. Some view daydreaming as an indulgence or a way to not pay attention to the lessons at hand.

However, daydreaming can provide opportunities for learning. Daydreaming can boost your creativity and problem-solving skills. It’s not always a sign of avoidance and distraction. Daydreaming can energize you and boost your morale. And, believe it or not, it can help you concentrate and focus on a specific task.

There are times when you have to give yourself a break and actually let your mind wander off. Just the same way you need to actually get up and walk around. Daydreaming is the equivalent (can be) to your brain walking around.

My daydreams run the gamut. I daydream of Hawaii. I daydream of a great meal. I daydream of saving the world. Sometimes, I daydream of a void. Nothingness. Other times, my daydreams are chaotic cacaphonies. That’s my brain re-wiring and strengthening its core muscles. Then, I’m ready to take on the world (again).

  2. I don’t daydream as much as I used to. I think that’s because of my phone. If I’m doing something tedious like waiting on a long line or sitting in a waiting room, instead of mentally drifting off, I pick up my phone and read my email. Should try to disconnect more.
