What is your favorite genre of music?
I’m of the belief that music is to be sampled and appreciated widely. Meaning, I don’t like to limit myself to just one genre or type of music. It’s not how I was brought up. My mom used to refer to herself as the Puerto Rican cowgirl in the South Bronx. At that time, rap, salsa, pop, and new wave music were all swirling around. And, while we heard that music on the streets and at home, we also listened to country western music. She loved it. Loretta lynn, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., and the like could be heard alongside Tina Turner, Wham, and Madonna.
Sometimes, people are quite surprised at the vast number of songs that I can sing along to. Such a skill came in hand many years ago on a carribean cruise where I won a trophy for being able to identify the most number of songs.
As I exercise every day to music, I mix it up a lot. Some days, it’s fast-paced techno. Other days are meant for songs to make one cry and feel nostalgia. I love ot all. Except for, admittedly, polka. That one is not my thing. But not bad otherwise having such eclectic tastes. I can usually find a song or two at a party to get into.

I like a lot of kinds of music, including the soulful ‘rancheras’ of my Mexican upbringing – but I had lost the ability to listen, and to enjoy, and to sing along – but recently found something that restored a lot of that: a pair of buskers who play Chapman sticks and call themselves Cascade (cascademelodies on Youtube).
Perfect little instrumentals showing off the variety of an instrument I hadn’t known about.
I got hooked, bout most of their albums, and listen more than I could for a long time.
