Do you remember life before the internet?
The internet. The web. Social media. Online activities. These all rule our daily lives now. Some online platforms may even cause mental health harm overall and specifically may be harming young girls.
I may be showing my age, but there was a time when many of us went to sleep seeing boxes coming down and fitting into one another. That was the time of tetris, and many were addicted to playing that game. That was right as the internet was starting to come into our lives. Now, it is worse than that.
Yet, although I know of such a time before the internet, I also can’t imagine a time without it. So much information, both real and fake, to sift through. Many human connections are actually facilitated by the internet, and all it encompasses. Of course, the main issue is overconsumption. Moderation is key, just like with everything else.

Former Queen of Tetris. Then I realized what I had said, and stopped cold turkey, and haven’t gone back.
I still have an obsessive personality (you saw my blog post on obsession), and get hooked on interesting things, but I can now also put them down. I grew up?
My problem is that, with ME/CFS I can’t always tell if my brain is usable for writing fiction. And thinking is affected by digestion and exhaustion.
But my indicator is how fast I can do a hard sudoku – under 6 min., we’re on; over, don’t bother trying to think.
I can literally FEEL my brain snap to focus if the conditions are right, and try not to let that time escape. Sometimes that works for me.
