From one knife to another: Great expectations

From one knife to another

She covered her ears, lowered her eyes
Leaving her rapid heartbeat exposed and compromised

She locked the doors, hid in the closets
Fingering the knife’s edges and imagining the body composites

She sought a refuge, found a false sanctuary
Disbelieving the knife indeed had no obituary

She vowed to find peace, left the cultural history behind
Misunderstanding that fate was indeed aligned

She now hid the knives, concerned about sadness
Despairing about the impending madness

What does it mean to be free?
What does it mean to be fated?

Inspired in part by the weekly challenge of expectations
