The twilight air hung heavy as I stood by the small lake, its stillness disturbed only by the faint ripple of unseen fish. Across the water, the red house stood like a forgotten relic, its windows dark, curtains drawn.
They say no one lives there—never has. Yet, every evening, just as the sky turns to ink, a light flickers on in the upstairs window, reflecting perfectly in the lake. Tonight, I waited, watching.
The light appeared, but something else caught my eye—a second reflection, moving across the water toward me.
I turned to run, but the reflection had no source.
