Do you ever see wild animals?
The suburban wilderness – a stage where nature’s finest performers gather, and my two canine co-stars, in particular, steal the spotlight. The prompt was simple: “Do you ever see wild animals?” Oh, if only it were that straightforward.
Dogs, the undisputed rulers of my abode, hold court with regal indifference. Yet, when deer dare to venture near my kitchen window, an unexpected canine cacophony ensues. Picture this: a Gossip Girl mystery unravels on the television while my dogs, like furry theater critics, react mightily to the woodland visitors outside.
As I attempt to decipher the enigma of Dan’s role in Gossip Girl, my dogs are engaged in their own wildlife drama. The deer, blissfully unaware of their unwitting participation, seem to revel in the canine-generated buzz. Meanwhile, I’m left contemplating the intricacies of both Upper East Side gossip and suburban deer psychology.
But let’s not overlook the supporting cast in this suburban menagerie. Woodpeckers, those avian percussionists, tap out a lively beat on the trees, creating a symphony that competes with the TV drama unfolding inside. Ground hogs emerge from their subterranean abodes, field mice engage in whimsical frolics, and chipmunks, the true acrobats of the ensemble, flit about like nature’s stand-up comedians.
One might envision this as a picturesque small petting zoo. However, reality has a charming way of dispelling such illusions. It’s not a petting zoo; it’s more like a comedy club with a wild twist. Instead of gentle petting, we have frenetic canine commentary, and the performers are blissfully unaware of their audience.
As the deer make their grand exit, the curtain falls on this suburban spectacle. The dogs, having delivered their review in mega woofs and tail wags, return to the domestic theater. And there I am, still unraveling the tangled threads of Gossip Girl’s narrative, surrounded by the echoes of a wildlife comedy that rivals any scripted drama.
Till next time

The only wild animals I see and often just hear are coyotes. They yip at night and in the daytime they trot down our driveway. Your deer looks very pretty and delicate.
