My post office ordeal: Sometimes it’s better to put things on hold

Some days are more taxing than others. A few days here and there have moments of relaxation. Yesterday was no such day.

I have been waiting for four very important pieces of mail related to my widow benefits and the like. I had to do a temporary mail forwarding as I got surgery.

Lo and behold that mail forwarding was and continues to be an epic failure. All my mail has gone missing, and when I try to track down two certified letters, I am told one is waiting to be scanned somewhere and the other is riding around with a possible new postal carrier. And, no one seemed pertubed by this.

Mind you, this is the same post office that couldn’t help me send a certified mail containing a death certificate because it was not in their job description.

Isn’t there any sympathy or empathy in a bureaucratic public service that keeps raising its rates?

In my posts, I usually try to put forth a lesson learned or a glimmer of hope or potential.

This was just a rant. Perhaps a bit mild, considering how frustrating the whole situation was and its immensely huge impact on my life.

Actually, here is a lesson learned. Don’t have your mail forwarded for a temporary period. Just put it on hold. That nugget can be applicable to many things in life actually.

  1. Hope your certified mail turns up – how frustrating! It isn’t necessarily the post office’s fault – their budget keeps getting cut – but the things which appear nice in principle don’t always work.
They DO seem to be able to handle ‘Hold.’ Thanks for the warnings.
