I did the right thing

The Uber driver asked me how my day was and he was quite chipper. But I was even happier. I was joyful and humming. It’s been hard to hide my joy. And I should not need to. He asked me if my day had gone as expected and I noted that indeed it had. The day was over. A small era or rather moment in my life had come to an end. Mercilessly so. Thankfully so. Gleefully so. He asked me if I felt good about it all. Indeed, I did. Indeed, I had been wise. Indeed, I had done the right thing. And that always feels good. You have to be true to yourself. To your values. To your integrity. Sometimes you have to leave the posers behind. Leave the wretched in their dirt. Leave the platitude-driven to their false sentiments. Theirs may be a fake smile. Mine was pure joy. I had done the right thing.
