The sound of music on a Monday: I will not yodel but I will walk with a spring in my step
I have never watched the Sound of Music in its entirety. Ever. I am not a big fan of musicals. When it it comes to musicals , I can count two that captured my interest Moulin Rouge (frenetic) to Avenue Q (keeping it real with “everybody is a little bit racist“). However, this Monday morning I am walking with a spring in my step (more to come on this later this week) and am allowing myself a little bit of the Sound of Music to enter my consciousness. The first verse of the song “My Favorite Things” lists items that make Maria (from the Sound of Music) happy:
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, Bright copper kettles, and warm woolen mittens, Brown paper packages tied up with strings, These are a few of my favorite things
Well, I don’t like roses but I do love tulips. I am not a major fan of kittens but I truly into puppy love. Copper kettles sure are pretty but I need my cup of joe every morning. I don’t get why brown paper bags tied up in strings would make anyone happy unless there were some nicely cut diamonds or donuts inside. Perhaps it actually means nice brown handbags that match my nice high heels?
As such, these are a few of my favorite things through which I can hop, skip, jump or be in awe of:
And then…
And then…
And then…
We are in the middle of winter where things can get a bit dreary. However, I am high on happiness and feeling light for I have been relieved of a grand burden. I am about to embark on a new adventure flying high above all the events and people that try to weigh me down.
I’ve got a spring in my step and a hum in my throat. New adventures are coming my way.

All sounds rather exciting Mimi.
‘Brown paper packages tied up with string’ – it doesnt matter what is inside, that aged and crinkly look with a crackle to touch, is a splendid comforting thing. Although brown paper bags are perhaps a little frightening at times.
I see you prancing over the fields, singing like the world can hear. Nice work. B
