Apparently, the universe has a sweet tooth.
Astronomers just found a sugar— called erythrulose floating around in the vast, cold, existential void we call the interstellar medium. Yes, space. The same place that gave us black holes, cosmic loneliness, and the occasional existential crisis now casually sprinkles in something also found in raspberries and self-tanner. Because of course it does.
Let’s pause on that for a second. The same substance that helps you fake a beach glow is just drifting between stars. Somewhere out there, a cloud of gas and dust is basically the galaxy’s version of a Sephora aisle meets a dessert tray. You can’t make this up.
But here’s where it gets interesting (and slightly validating for anyone who has ever defended their dessert choices). Sugar isn’t just about cupcakes and questionable late-night decisions. It’s foundational. Sugars help fuel our cells. They’re part of the scaffolding of DNA. In other words, the stuff we side-eye in our coffee is also part of the architecture of life itself.
Which means, if we zoom out far enough, the building blocks of life are literally floating through space, waiting, colliding, forming, becoming. A little chaos, a little chemistry, a little sweetness and suddenly you have life. Or at the very least, a very compelling argument for dessert.
I’ve always suspected sugar wasn’t entirely the villain it’s made out to be. And now? It’s cosmic. Interstellar. Practically philosophical. The universe itself is out here saying, “Relax, it’s not that serious. Have the raspberries.”
So yes, the space between stars just got a little sweeter. And maybe, just maybe, so did the way we think about the small, indulgent things here on Earth.
Turns out, even in the cold vacuum of space, there’s room for something a little soft, a little unexpected and a little sweet.

So much we don’t understand about reality and its make up…but I suppose when we cross over, we would understand..again.😀

I believe I read at one time 98% of the human body is made up of the same elements that are in the cosmos. We are all just energy that comes from the same spot and will return to the same spot.
