Magpies in the Office: A Random Monday Morning Thought

Monday mornings tend to have us daydreaming, right? Today, I found myself fixated on black-billed magpies. Yes, magpies! These little birds are seriously underrated. Not only are they drop-dead gorgeous with their sleek black-and-white tuxedo look, but they’re social geniuses. They can recognize themselves in the mirror (let that sink in), they’ve got high mimicry skills, and they’re playful to boot. Basically, they’ve got a higher emotional IQ than some humans I’ve worked with (no names!).

So naturally, my brain went there: Can we start training magpies for the workplace? I think they’d be fantastic team members. Imagine walking into a meeting where a magpie mimics your voice asking all the right questions. Or how about brainstorming with a bird that’s playful but also sharp enough to recognize its own reflection—imagine that self-awareness in human form! Productivity and fun, all in one sleek, feathered package.

I’m just saying, if we’re going to mix up the work environment, why not throw in some high-flying intelligence? Sure, they might get distracted by shiny things (don’t we all?), but they’d likely have us laughing and collaborating like never before.

Just a random Monday morning thought—who’s with me on the magpie team initiative?

I welcome your thoughts
