Saturday Vibes: The Geography of Bad Days

If you’re having a bad day, let me share a little nugget of joy I stumbled upon in the depths of TikTok: There’s supposedly  a help desk at the Vienna airport in Austria specifically for people who landed there thinking they were headed to Australia. Yes, you read that right. Somewhere in the world, people have shown up in Vienna ready for kangaroos and koalas, only to be greeted by Mozart and schnitzels instead.

Honestly, this is a whole new level of bad day. I mean, can you imagine getting off the plane, eagerly awaiting the sunshine and surf of Australia, only to find yourself in a chilly, landlocked European city where kangaroo sightings are strictly limited to gift shop keychains? The disappointment would be palpable.

But here’s the thing—I kind of love that this happens enough to warrant its own help desk. It’s the perfect reminder that even on our worst days, at least we didn’t get the whole continent wrong. Sure, maybe we missed a deadline, spilled coffee on ourselves, or accidentally sent a cringe-worthy email, but at least we’re in the right country.

So, as you scroll through your Saturday and think about whatever might be dragging you down, just remember: somewhere in Austria, a help desk is comforting someone whose vacation plans just went very, very off-course. And if they can survive that, surely we can survive whatever this weekend throws at us. Schnitzel, anyone?
