Ghost Riders in the Cross-Country Storm
As we raced cross country this past week. we encountered some wicked storms through the midwest that had me humming along to the Door’s “Rider’s on the Storm” and feeling like I was a bit in a horror film.
There were times when we could barely see five inches in front of us. There were times when trucks would come out of the storm staring straight at us with their high beams on like a possessed evil truck from some John Carpenter film.
Right at the border of South Dakota and Wyoming and between Wyoming and Montana a fierce quick storm took place while we were on back roads. The eeriness was intoxicating. All of a sudden it felt like we were ghost hunters on the search for the next big scary creature. The wind howled. The rain pounded. The car held steady. Who knew what waited for us across the fog.
Just then big headlights attached to trucks pierced through.
The three different trucks above woke us up from our reverie and the radio (in our minds that is) played the Doors.
“Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Into this house we’re born
Into this world we’re thrown
Like a dog without a bone
An actor out on loan
Riders on the storm”
We zipped away till we saw the sunshine break through. On a road trip you have to be ready for just about anything, including storms, ghosts and mice.

I have a love-hate relationship with trucks when I drive on the interstates. I love to follow them in bad storms, where I feel like they’re “running interference” or trailblazing for me. I hate to get stuck behind them when they’re trying to pass each other, especially when driving uphill, or when they’re on my tail when driving downhill.

that is so true. I can see and feel that love hate relationship 🙂 and I do not even drive!

Just discovered comments and emojis. Wasn’t ignoring you before!
🚚 You can probably tell this is a truck. Next step will be getting color and size right!
