A quiet dignity and stoic grace
A kind-hearted gentle, yet majestic lion
A quiet strength roaring onto a rapturous face
A bright twinkle in his eye
A seemingly genuine laughing smile
27 jailed off years did not lead to his heart’s demise
Wide extended arms would reach up to the sky
His was a transformational life
With a soft, but powerful clenched fist flying up high
He radiated hope to millions craving freedom
He united, loved and forgave
Don’t we wish, we could all be so brave
We mourn the passing of a great gentle soul
Who now fiercely rides the winged doves
May he keep dancing and paving that freedom stroll
And rain down peace from the great big skyway up above
Goodnight, Nelson Mandela
Your light will brightly shine on

There are precious few people that, singularly, actually change history. Nelson Mandela was indeed one.
