Happy Fourth Of July: Photos from US Road Trips
Today I woke up at 8:00 am. That is the biggest gift I got today on the birthday of the United States. I rarely ever sleep past 6:15 am with a toddler who constantly reminds me it is morning at 5:00 am. My body just naturally gets up really early anyway. Even on vacation, I do not sleep past 8:00 am.
It’s raining and gloomy here in New York. Today, I will not be partying. I will stay at home and relax. No need to go to a rain-soaked field to try to catch fireworks that may or may not happen. That is also my attitude towards my own past birthday celebrations as I never have thrown a party for myself. I am usually on the road, road-tripping for both my birthday and for the fourth of July. Oddly, I have been in Canada several times for the Fourth of July.
Yet, in a way, there is no better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than to go on a road trip through the south, the north or across the country. To pass the corn fields, the swamps, the highway signs is a grand sense of Americana. For a bit of fun here are some photos from those roads trips across the US, highlighting the flag, and bits of photo whimsy.
