My twitter app stopped working and I happily went about my day

One morning I woke up and went about doing my usual tasks. I woke up and made four cups of coffee. I looked briefly at my work phone to make sure nothing needed to be immediately addressed. I then looked at my personal phone to see what Twitter had to say. Admittedly, I get a kick out of looking at Twitter to see what is the major news of the day. Sometimes, key political information is trending, other times the latest Justin Bieber or BTS song is tops. What takes a hold of the public’s consciousness is a crapshoot and often confounds many of us. But that makes me laugh and thrills me. Which confuses many people about me. They don’t quite understand how someone “like me” likes Twitter so much.

That morning as I clicked on my Twitter app, it kept crashing and not opening. I restarted my phone and that didn’t help. My Twitter app didn’t work for a day and a half. And, the world didn’t end. I, of course, say that facetiously. Although, there was one time on a cross-country flight that I sat next to a nervous flier who was panicking because there was no wifi. He admitted to me that he needed to be on social media to feel a connection and not be alone. I panicked because I don’t like talking to people on the plane and I realized that if he didn’t have access to twitter, I would get no rest. I flagged the flight attendant to let them know that the wifi was out. Then I put my earphones on and tried to tune out.

Meanwhile back to present time. My Twitter app was non-functional during the Impeachment proceedings. And, I realized this was a good thing. I was blissfully out of touch with all the outrage in the Twitterverse. It is a nice feeling, actually. I have too much going on in my life to get stuck in the often toxic social media universe.

Once I got back on to the app, people were obsessing about the the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch’s new season on Netflix. And, I needed to know what happened to Nick.

  1. I have an account. I don’t even know how to access it. The very thought of being interrupted continuously by the herd mind makes me itch. If it’s still trending by the end of the day, it will be on the Washington Post the next. Good enough for me.

You go ahead – that interruptibility doesn’t last forever.
