They had been driving all night for hours on end. The coffee was doing nothing as it coursed through their veins. They needed something stronger. Way stronger. They hated what they had seen, said, and done. But there was nothing that they could now change. The shovel rattled with each bump in the road.
They saw the sign up ahead for La Pulgas Road and veered right. They drove for two miles and exited the car at the short non-descript blue pole. They grabbed the shovel and laid it down next to the pole and walked 50 steps west. They fell to the ground staring straight up at the sky and dreamt of crabby snacks. Back in the day, they had played downfield. Now, they needed a new game plan.
