Merry Christmas, happy hanukkah, and keep those to-do lists for another day

My son’s big day is here. It is Chrismukkah! (Is there an emoji for that?)

My son has been counting down for weeks now. And he is beyond ecstatic. Besides being happy to get his gifts, he also reminded us that Christmas is about family and enjoying time with each other. I noted to him that everyday is Christmas for me with him.  He is rhe best gift from the universe.  Not a day goes by without me telling him not only that I love him but that he is a bright, shining star in my life.  What can be better than his happiness on this day?

Besides his giddy, chatterbox nature, one of the best part of it being Christmas is that it is one of the few days of the year, where I have no to-do list to review and check off.  Everyday, day in and day out, I get up, pull out my blue pen with yellow pad and make a list of all the things I need to get done. My yellow pad tends to have two columns: one for work and one for personal chores. At some point those lists do blend and meld together (sadly, perhaps).  However, today, on Christmas day, I did not get up and toddle over to the desk to figure out what is going to happen for the next 12 hours.  Today we celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah and that is paramount.

Today, we wake up, open gifts, laugh, hug and squeeze. Today, we eat comfort food and play. Today, we go catch a family friendly movie and forget about the sometimes cold world outside.

Today, we hop, skip and run. We do random, goofy things just because we won’t be weighed down by the craziness of the past year. My son has been skipping over his new disco-ball like dreidel with much glee.

Here is the ultimate goofiness displayed by my ecstatic son. Jumping rope in a highrise near the Christmas tree trying to perfect his jump for the coming year.  He keeps screaming that he is king of the world as he drops the jump rope and picks up his nerf gun. Meanwhile I am trying to remember the lyrics to random Christmas songs. But even if I get the lyrics wrong, it will all be alright.

Joy. Pure joy.

Wishing you all a joyous holiday season and may you give your mind and worries a brief break.
